About the Artist

Jennifer Hill is a studio artist working in Austin TX. Her artwork has appeared in numerous exhibitions, including the notable Hawaii's Modern Masters in Waikiki and the more recent Cio Che Muore in Rome, Italy. In Texas she has exhibited widely including the solo show

Cultivated on Dry Land at Georgetown Art Center, which the Austin Chronicle described as "...the next best thing to scuba diving around Cozumel with the ghost of H.P. Lovecraft". Other exhibits include a solo show at the Studio Gallery in Dallas, two-person shows at the Dougherty Arts Center and Atelier 1205, and appearances in unique venues such as the Peoples' Gallery at Austin City Hall, Dimension Gallery, and the Neill Cochran House Museum.

Jennifer earned an MFA in ceramics from Utah State University, Logan, a BFA from Southern Methodist University and attended the University of Florida, Gainesville for a postbacc study. She was an invited artist-in-residence at Chester Springs Studio in Pennsylvania, and taught college in both Oregon and Hawaii. Currently she maintains a studio practice in Austin and teaches at area art centers.

Artist Statement

I look to the manner in which plants and sea creatures generate their structures and take note of how several visually overlap despite having no apparent common ancestry. Clay provides the ideal medium for these abstractions with its range of expression, from sensuous pliability to earthy solidity. My work is a combination of wheel thrown parts and handbuilding using either porcelain or a gritty stoneware.
