I love the physicality of paint and of materials in general. I find myself in these brushstrokes and drips. Color feeds my soul and painting makes me happy.
Recently I've also been taking video of light, captivated by the slow flicker and movement of light shapes. After altering the color, speed, and composition of the video, I project and layer it with different shapes of dyed and painted canvas, becoming a light collage.
I find these Illuminated layers of light and color to have a very calming effect and use them in meditation.
These abstractions in paint or in video record a moment for me, suggesting a sequence, movement, or cycles. Mirroring patterns of nature and embedding evidence of water. They are parts captured in still. Parts of a whole that piece together. Subtleties that transpire into an epiphany. I long to capture these fleeting moments, vague yet intense.
