Natalie Keuss is an artist based in Austin, Texas who creates minimalist paintings incorporating the wonders of light. She also experiments with light directly which she captures both as art itself and as inspiration for future tangible works. Natalie graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with an engineering degree. This background influences her structured style and interest in exploring the physical world. In the years since graduating, she has focused her energy on artistic study and discovering her unique artistic practice.
My recent works all have one thing in common -inspiration from the magic of light. In part of my practice I use paint to recreate natural phenomena of light that capture my attention. I use minimalist compositions and bright colors to express myself in these works. The other portion of my practice involves letting light stand on its own as the art itself. I capture moments of my experimentation with light through photographs, film, or by exploring ways to sustain the moment through sculptural means. My work reminds me of the moments of simplicity within life that easily get lost in the hustle and noise. The flickering light through leaves of a tree or the unexpected shadow cast across the room. These are the things I choose to focus on.
