Laura Lit is a classically trained artist whose subject matter has shifted dramatically in recent years. Formally a realist painter, focused on portraiture and the human figure, Lit now paints and draws colorful abstractions she see in her mind's eye.
My art is generated from my mind's eye. I let the imagery come to me without allowing my conscious mind inform it in terms of meaning or subject matter.
The series "Fuzzy Forces" was recently shown online at Northern Southern and is part of the beginning of my serious exploration and study of spiritual abstraction. I consider it spiritual in the sense that I am accessing my subconscious, a higher plane, or a different kind of connection to life and the universe than I had previously done. I find this kind of work incredibly satisfying, freeing, and challenging at the same time. "Fuzzy Forces" was all created from my home, on the couch and kitchen table while the pandemic raged on and kept me from my regular studio. They are all created with colored pencil and ink on paper.
Now that this series is complete, the next pieces will be larger and a continued exploration of themes I've touched upon. When I return to the studio I will have tons of material with which to make huge oil paintings from. In the meantime, I'm perfectly happy changing my mode of working so I can take care of my family and home while making art in the few quiet, solitary moments. One day at a time.
