Jamie Spinello was born in Lafayette, Louisiana and grew up in Jackson, Mississippi before moving to Austin, Texas in 2010. She received her BFA in graphic design and painting from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2005 and MFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2007. She is a recipient of the Murphy Cadogan Fellowship awarded by the San Francisco Arts Foundation, the San Francisco Art Institute MFA Fellowship, the Laurel Art League scholarship awarded by the Laurel Art league and Laurel Art Museum. She has exhibited her sculptures at the SFMoma gallery, Diego Rivera Gallery, LSU Museum of Art Sculpture Garden, Austin Public libraries, Austin City Parks and will be exhibiting in Houston, Texas in 2021 as part of the True North Houston Heights public art exhibit.
Abstracted botanical and insect-inspired forms are common threads throughout my creations. Underlying geometries and structures of plants and insects inform my work. The diminishing wild landscapes within urban areas has become a concern where I live and a source of inspiration for my abstract sculptural works.
