About the Artist

Dana Younger is a Texas sculptor who earned a BA in Theater from the University of Texas at Austin. His experiences in the theater, as well as in construction and boatbuilding, led him to pursue art fabrication. Younger began his art career as a founding partner of Blue Genie Art Industries, an art fabrication company, and the Blue Genie Art Bazaar, an annual holiday art show now in its 18th year. Currently he is the Exhibits Manager for Texas Parks and Wildlife where he manages writers, designers and fabricators to make exhibits for Texas State Parks. His sculpture work has shown in galleries throughout Texas and the US including the Meijer Sculpture Garden in Grand Rapids, Michigan, New Mexico State University, the Louise Hopkins-Underwood Center for the Arts in Lubbock, Texas, Wright State University in Ohio, Purdue University in Indiana, Abilene Christian University, Texas A&M and Stephen F. Austin University.

Artist Statement

Technology is changing us. There is tension at the intersection of our traditional social/emotional selves and our digital world. We live at the intersection. Colliding, engulfing, advancing or assimilating, this change is now.

As a teenager, my family moved to northern Idaho to homestead. We built a log cabin with no electricity or running water. In summer, I chopped wood. In winter, I cross-country skied to school. Grounded by this experience, I have one foot solidly in the world of tradition. My other foot is always advancing further into technology. I developed a taste for the edge of technology as an early adopter of digital fabrication equipment.

I look forward and back at the same time. Looking back, I see representation. The history, nuance, accessibility and power of representation in art enthralls me. Looking ahead, I see endless variation through the digital lens. This is where my work lives.
