Carissa Fisher is an Austin native and a brand new abstract fluid artist. (Hello pandemic silver lining!) She has her BFA in dance from the University of North Texas, and has been performing as a member of the Kathy Dunn Hamrick Dance Company for the last 10 years. Her love of movement and strong dynamics is what fuels each piece.
I am a dancer, and I speak in movement. When the pandemic hit there were no performances, no rehearsals and no in-person classes. Desperate for a creative outlet, I stumbled into visual art, and started acrylic pouring.
I already know how to cut through negative space with bold and crisp lines, and fade into vapor like smoke dissipating into nothing. I know how important it is to balance striking images with space, breath and pause. And to balance hard power with the softness of liquid.
I still have much to learn, but it is my goal to show my audience what I already know, just through a new medium.
